"I could not be more please with the professional and outstanding care Dr. Rudman and his staff gave me. After breaking my shoulder in a skiing accident Dr. Rudman made himself available immediately. I am a very active Ironman triathlete, Dr. Rudman knew how important it was for me to get back to swimming again. He decided against surgery which made me nervous I would not get my range of motion back. Now, 8 months later I can say I have completed 2 Half Ironman triathlons and am almost 100%. I assure you will receive the best possible treatment from the front desk staff, to the nurses, to Dr. Rudman's caring bedside manner." "I have had ongoing knee problems for a long time now (~6 years) from a sports injury, and I've been to see quite a few doctors, all of which could not get to the root of the problem I was having. I came to see Dr. Rudman about a year and a half ago and he was able to figure out the problem! He set up a plan for me, and in June of this year he performed surgery to correct the issue. Now, a little more than 5 months later, I am feeling so much better than I have in the last 6 years, and I'm getting back to the activities I used to participate in before my injury. Dr. Rudman is a fantastic doctor - he took the time to explain everything that he was doing in great detail, he promised me results, and he delivered. Additionally, his office staff is fantastic - always so friendly and helpful! I highly recommend Specialty Orthopaedics!!" AR, Dumont, NJ; Patellar instability - Minimally Invasive Medial Patellofemoral Ligament (MPFL) Reconstruction  - https://www.facebook.com/Specialty-Orthopaedics-of-New-Jersey-1377723692441352/

"Dr. Rudman performed my 14 year old daughter’s ACL reconstruction surgery and I couldn’t be happier with the results. Excellent patient care and he really spends a lot of time with her during each visit and thoroughly answers all of her questions. His staff is so friendly as well. Highly recommend Dr. Rudman! “In the spring of 2013 our 10 year old son had an accident which led to the complete tear of his ACL. After receiving the diagnosis we spent some time looking for a qualified surgeon that would be able to repair the ligament in such a young patient. The psychological effect on our son was devastating to say the least. After only a few minutes with Dr. Rudman, our son immediately felt comfortable and relaxed. Dr. Rudman’s energetic attitude toward the injury and its solution gave us complete confidence in his abilities.

Before, during and after surgery, Dr. Rudman was always accessible for questions and made sure we knew exactly what was going on. Our son healed quickly and has returned to sports fully as a result of Dr. Rudman’s expert care.

Although my wife never wants him to ever play sports again, THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts for getting Riley back on the field. Hopefully one day he will be offering you an autograph from the sidelines.

“Amazing- is how I describe the excellent and compassionate care Dr. Rudman provided my son. Dr. Rudman’s surgery repaired my son’s shoulder and got him back to feeling stronger than ever. My son is now back on the basketball court where he hopes to play competitive college basketball. Plus the office staff was always professional and caring!”

“I had an excellent experience with Dr. Rudman and his staff! People at the front desk were very pleasant and efficient. I was surprised that the waiting time was minimal. Dr. Rudman listened to my explanation/questions about my shoulder problem, and I never felt rushed. He carefully explained the diagnosis, and gave me a treatment that worked effectively. My experience for my follow up visit was as good as the first visit.

I should add that Dr. Rudman’s office was not in our HMO program of our insurance but his staff took care of the paperwork so quickly that we got reimbursed right away! I was very impressed. I highly recommend Dr. Rudman!

“The prospect of surgery in any form is anxiety producing, but permanently removing a body part and replacing it with a prosthesis is one of the most difficult decisions that an individual and family has to decide. You just have no idea what is in store with respect to preparation, surgery, pain, recovery, and outcome. There is no practice or rehearsing a joint replacement. But rather we have to rely on the experience, reassurance, guidance, and professionalism of those that do this on a regular basis.

The personal and considerate attention provided by Dr. Rudman and his staff cannot be overstated. They patiently answered all of our questions and even covered critical points that we had not considered. In my own case, after years of intensive pain and significant restricted movement in my left knee and right shoulder, I was left with no alternative but surgery. Dr. Rudman and his staff provided my family and I the education, support, references, and reassurances that we needed to make our surgery decision and proceeded. Fast forward 18 months after two replacement surgeries by Dr. Rudman, I am fishing, working out, playing golf (yes, golf!!), and generally enjoying a significantly improved and almost painless lifestyle. I won’t say that everything is perfect and I am back to 100%, that’s just not realistic, but I will say that Dr. Rudman has done a remarkable job in restoring my active and outdoor lifestyle in ways that I never thought possible. Also, the issues of insurance and financial coverage are a big area of patient concern. Here again, Dr. Rudman and his staff were respectful and helpful in managing this inevitable part of the healthcare process.

In conclusion, I am facing the prospect of another total knee replacement, and I will do this with Dr. Rudman. I cannot make a more significant endorsement than that!”

- Knee, Shoulder - Total Knee and Shoulder Arthroplasty (Replacements)

“I had a wonderful experience with Dr. Rudman and his office staff. They always received me promptly for all my office visits. That is certainly a plus.

I fell and fractured my shoulder and had been to an emergency room where they suggested immediate surgery. They even suggested doing a total shoulder replacement. Instead I obtained my x-rays, called my physician Dr. Fields and she recommended I see Dr. Rudman. I went from the emergency room directly to Dr. Rudman’s office. Dr. Rudman’s decision was not to operate on my shoulder after seeing my x-rays and sending me to Valley Hospital for a cat scan. Unless it moved position as he felt an operation would not have improved my healing process. Actually he told me that he thought I would have better healing without the operation. He told me he loved to operate but when he felt it would not improve the healing he would not operate unless it became a necessity. He watched me very closely for several months and my arm was in a sling with no movement and advised me to sleep in a recliner and not to lie down at all. As soon as it was healed he started me on therapy (his recommendation of a therapy place was wonderful). Six months later me arm is close to being back to normal and Dr. Rudman said I have more movement than if he had operated. Both Dr. Rudman and I were extremely pleased with my progress and his decision not to operate.

Dr. Rudman is a kind and caring doctor and made my first experience with a broken bone a positive one. I would certainly recommend Dr. Rudman and his office staff to anyone with an orthopedic injury.

I do not think that I would recommend any improvements in his practice and service.”

“On May 7, 2008 I fell and broke my shoulder. I went to Valley Hospital Emergency Room and was treated by the on call doctor. The following day he contacted me to advise I would need a shoulder specialist to operate on me. He gave me your name as a referral. A visit your office determined that my shoulder required surgery. I expressed my concerns to you that I am a father to two small children. More that anything I wanted to be able to play with them the way I used to before my injury, which was picking them up above my head to fly like Superman. Being a skeptic, I went for a second opinion, which confirmed your diagnosis.

After your reassurance, I decided to proceed with the arthroscopic surgery. The surgery, although painful, paled in comparison to the immobilization and recovery period that followed. As per your orders for rehabilitation, I followed through with all six months of physical therapy. All of my physical therapists knew that “Rudman is strict but good.” They were confident that with you as my doctor I would achieve maximum use of my shoulder in the future. Today, a year after my surgery, I am so thankful that I listened to you.

On my final visit to your office you remembered my initial concern and asked, “ Are you able to pick your kids up the way that you used to?” and with over 90% mobility in my once badly broken shoulder I can happily answer,” Absolutely yes.”

“The year 2007 was a challenging year for me. I was 57 years old and injured my right shoulder in August. Word had it that Dr. Rudman was the doctor to see regarding shoulder injuries, so I made an appointment. His diagnosis was right on. He performed shoulder decompression surgery. After a quick recovery and physical therapy, I was able to resume playing golf and lifting weights.

“In December of 2007, my right knee started to give out. I had an ACL surgery back in 2000 by another doctor. I made an appointment with Dr. Rudman. His examination determined that my ACL and meniscus were torn and needed an operation. He gave a full explanation of his findings, procedures, recovery, and exercises. He expressed confidence and was encouraging. His staff was very professional and helpful. I never had to wait when I had an appointment. Bottom line, my right knee is stable, I take dance lessons, go to the gym, and run, all without pain… and there is no scar! I recommend Dr. Rudman 100%.”

Dr. Rudman was very thorough and extremely concerned with making sure I understood the extent of my injury. He made sure I fully understood what he was going to do. Also, Dr. Rudman’s office assistant, Kathy, is wonderful.”

“My son had a serious injury playing football. He not only had a plateau tibia fracture, but he also tore his hamstring off the bone, tore his LCL, as well as his PCL. We were completely out of our element in how to deal with this situation. After much research, Dr. Rudman was recommended to us. I cannot begin to express our gratitude towards him. From the moment we arrived in the office, he explained every step of what needed to be done in the surgery and what we could expect afterwards. He preformed the surgery wonderfully and the follow up care was perfect. He showed us pictures of the actual injury and explained exactly what the procedure he preformed in order to mend it. There was never a question that we had that was too small or unimportant; and we had plenty of them. His patience is unending. He always took that extra step to make sure that we were comfortable and well informed. We were made to feel that we could call him at any time at all with anything that was on our minds.

Dr. Rudman has a true understanding of how important sports can be to an athlete. After months of rehab, my son is not back playing sports and thriving. After sitting out and having to watch his teammates play, my son and I are more grateful than we can express, to Dr. Rudman and the work he did.”

“I am a teacher in Clifton and had broken up a fight with two very aggressive and angry 8th graders. I had received multiple punches to my shoulder. A workmen’s compensation social case manager referred me to Dr. Rudman. I had no previous knowledge of the doctor prior to this incident. The initial visit with Dr. Rudman and his staff was rather pleasant despite the incredible pain. Dr. Rudman was very thorough in his examination as well as professional and compassionate. Surgery was recommended and performed. There were some complications due to the severity of the injury. I was given a prescription for physical therapy and a reference to a pain management team. This was done in a timely manner. If I needed to see him, the staff would schedule me right away. I never waited more than five minutes in the waiting room. All in all I was pleased with his services and attentiveness.”

“Prior to seeing Dr. David Rudman, I had had two to three years of progressively worse pain whenever I moved my right shoulder. A former patient of Dr. Rudman and very good friend of mine highly recommended him to me. Upon seeing Dr. Rudman, he did a thorough examination of my right shoulder, including an x-ray and MRI. He informed me that I had no cartilage and that my right shoulder was “bone on bone” and that the only solution would be a full shoulder replacement. I was very impressed with Dr. Rudman’s professionalism and demeanor. I was also impressed with his office staff. We scheduled and then he proceeded to do surgery to correct the problem with my shoulder. The surgery went very smoothly. It is now four months post-surgery and I have recovered approximately 95% of shoulder motion. Based on my experience with Dr. Rudman, I would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone else needing this type of surgery.”

“I am writing this testimonial to inspire others to experience the skill and wisdom of Dr. David Rudman.

I am a big fan of Dr. Rudman. Dr. Rudman was recommended to me by the Orthopedic Group that our family used when I broke my elbow and was to require emergency surgery to put the pieces back together.

Dr. Rudman explained the procedure in detail and he was able to put me completely at ease before surgery.

Not only did Dr. Rudman repair my elbow expertly but I did not experience much discomfort during the weeks that followed. My mobility returned quickly and I attribute that factor to Dr. Rudman’s expert surgical skills.”

“I can not commend Dr.’s Rudman & Self enough. They have given me back my life. Before surgery on both shoulders my abilities were limited. I now have full use and strength in both arms and shoulders. I can confidently play sports or do any physical activity I choose. I have not felt this good in many years. Thank you both for an excellent job. I also would compliment your office staff.”

“I was dreading having my rotator cuff surgery as everyone I spoke to who had a similar operation, said that the recovery period would be extremely painful. To my pleasant surprise, I did not have any pain at all. My husband had two similar surgeries and said he had been very uncomfortable. Dr. Rudman was extremely pleasant and considerate and he always made me feel that he had all the time in the world to spend with me. It is just 3 months since the surgery and I am already playing golf without any pain whatsoever.”

“Thank you for all you did for my son LP’s right shoulder this past April. All he wanted to do was get back into basketball and get ready for High School Basketball during his senior year. Your surgery allowed him to do just that!

He is a starter for Gill St. Bernard’s boy’s basketball team in Glastone, NJ and they are having a phenomenal year. The team is ranked in the top 25 in the US by USA today.

Larry was very fortunate to have you as his surgeon along with the excellent care you and your staff have provided him.

“My experience with Dr. Rudman and his staff was always marked by a manner that was efficient and professional, yet warm and personal. The appointments were made and kept without any waiting time. The examinations were conducted respectfully with clear and adequate information given, questions responded to, and treatment explained.”

I recently had shoulder surgery with Dr. Rudman. I am completely satisfied with the results and the care he rendered. I found Dr. Rudman to be professional yet personal. He was careful to call me by name, to explain the condition, the treatment and surgical procedure to be followed as well as the necessary follow up. Being a busy person I particularly appreciated that appointments were scheduled to minimize waiting in the office.

After the surgery Dr. Rudman was clear about physical therapy and he attentively followed the progress of my recuperation and let me know what to expect every step along the way to full recovery. I would recommend Dr. Rudman without reservation.
