On November 4, 2018, I ran the New York City Marathon, my first marathon ever. I’ve never been prouder to finish 18,842nd in any thing in my life. My time was 4:12:48, slightly better than the average time for men at 4:26.55. I was expecting to finish between 4-4:15, so I was pretty happy. #NJSportsdoc, #NYCMarathon

Platelets play a intergral role in the bodies natural process of healing. Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is a concentrate of platelet-rich plasma protein derived from the whole blood of a patient. The patients blood is drawn under sterile techniques and then centrifuged to remove the red blood cells. The PRP has 3-5 times the concentration of platelet then whole blood. Harnessing the bodies healing potential via the growth factors and cytokines in PRP, this preperation is then injected in the tissue where healing is desired. In some instances the treatment requires a series of three injections spaced out one week a part. PRP has been investigated and used across several speacilities including dentistry, orthopaedics, plastic surgery and dermatology. In Orthopaedics it's uses include treatment of chronic tendinitis, osteoarthritis and bone repair and regeneration.
Massive rotator cuff tears that have failed a previous repair or are irreparable, pose a challenge to both patients and doctors a like. The superior capsule reconstruction (SCR) offers a novel approach for these patients. SCR utilizes a graft that is attached to the superior glenoid, the shoulder socket, and the greater tuberosity on the humerus, the shoulder ball. The goal with SCR surgery is to help stabilize the humeral head in the glenoid. Theorectically with improved glenohumeral kinematics the deltoid and remaining rotator cuff muscles can function more effectively. Recent early follow up studies have shown promising results with decreased pain and increased function.
