Common Shoulder Injuries

The shoulder joint is especially vulnerable to injury because it has a wide range of motion and unique anatomy. The glenoid (socket) is shallow like a plate and the humerus (ball) is round, which gives the shoulder the most motion of any joint in the body. Unfortunately, its not very stable. To increase stability there is a gasket around the glenoid, called a labrum, and coming off the top of the labrum is the bicep tendon. There are also four muscles that make up the rotator cuff.

Shoulder trauma can lead to dislocations, instability, superior labrum anterior-posterior (SLAP) tears, anterior labral tears (Bankart injury), rotator cuff tears and fractures. Additional injuries and conditions commonly treated at our practice include broken clavicles, AC separations, bursitis and  impingement issues, as well as degenerative joint diseases like rheumatoid and osteoarthritis.

Regardless of your condition, Dr. Rudman can provide the treatment you need to relieve your pain and return to normal activity. He offers outstanding surgical and non-surgical care that can help you achieve function and comfort once again. As a conservative physician, he prefers to recommend surgery only after other treatment options have failed.

Dr. Rudman will also make sure that you are informed in the decision-making process, and he believes that a knowledgeable and involved patient enjoys better treatment outcomes. Of course, if surgery is the best treatment for your condition, he has extensive experience in the surgical theatre. He is an extremely skilled surgeon and one of the few in the area performing advanced procedures, such as the Laterjet procedure for instability and glenoid deficiency, and reverse total shoulder replacements for rotator cuff arthropathy or fracture.
